Background
An inspirational client and an inspirational project background. This UK Charity, working for world peace and empowerment of young people, came to us with a desire to create a peaceful garden retreat on their site in the Forest of Dean.
Brief
It was important that this outdoor garden hideaway was sensitively designed to offer an opportunity for individuals and small groups to spend time away from the main house in a separate, peaceful space. The site was chosen to optimise the appreciation of the natural environment, and needed to have features that would allow those using it to fully appreciate the wildlife.
Design & build
The site was decided upon quite easily: at the end of the gardens where the animals and birds thrive and the stream runs through. Set on a slope, this structure was specifically designed to allow its users to watch the wildlife and appreciate the surrounding environment. The long set of stairs leading up to the front and the covered balcony area allow many people to sit and enjoy the views. The high quality interior, including the installation of power, creates an protected interior space for quiet contemplation and also for groups of school children to visit for educational sessions. Numerous doors and windows allow plenty of light in, and the gently sweeping cedar shingled roof helps to make this building sit naturally in its space.
